Dear Parents,
I hope by now that your child is feeling well settled here at Woodbrook College, we are certainly delighted with how well the students are settling in and the progress that they are making. I have enjoyed meeting with those parents who have made contact and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support thus far.
As you know we are keen to involve parents wherever possible and to work together to address issues as they arise. One small issue which a number of parents have raised with me is that of homework, particularly Maths homework. To that end Mr Brian Connaughton from our Maths Department is proposing to run a Workshop which would involve a quick presentation of a typical maths lesson. He will then demonstrate how a parent might go about involving themselves with their child’s homework and he will finally give step by step approaches that a parent might take, even if Maths is not a strong point of yours.
Really the idea of the Homework Workshop is to help increase parents confidence when helping their sons or daughters with homework. Another aim is to decrease any negativity towards certain subjects. This negativity can feed in to the student and prevent them from improving or perhaps excelling with topics. The workshop will run on Monday 23rd October from 7pm -8pm. If the take up for this subject is positive we are open to running similar workshops in other subjects.

I do hope to see as many of you as possible at the workshop next Monday.
Many thanks

Suzanne Hand
