The 5th of October 2020, marks a sad day for Woodbrook College with the loss of a friend and colleague. But who was Br. Tallon? Br. Eddie Tallon taught in several secondary schools around the country before settling in St. Brendan’s in 1985. He served as the last Christian Brother Principal, retiring in 1990. But even after his retirement, Br. Tallon continued with his dual passion of education and nature.

Caring for the grounds of St. Brendan’s, that he loved so much for many years after his retirement, he regularly asked for updated curriculum textbooks on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics so that he could “brush up” on these subjects. So, it is with great pride that the Board of Management of Woodbrook College, formerly St. Brendan’s have commissioned the “Tallon Memorial Cup” awarded to the student with the best Leaving Certificate result for the year. It is fitting that his name be associated with the achieving of excellence in education and the dedication that this takes for the individual involved.

The inaugural recipient of this cup is Patryk Ostapczuk who has gone on to study Engineering in Trinity College. Patryk is seen above receiving the cup and a small token from the Board’s Chair, Pat Keating. We wish Patryk every success in his future endeavours as we do for all our past pupils of the 2019-20 Leaving Certificate class.
