TY Gaisce Hike

Gaisce Hike 2019

The school invites students to undertake the Gaisce Hike each year as a real test of endurance and teamwork. The hike takes the students from the Village of Roundwood and across a large stage of the Wicklow Way as they summit Djouce Mountain before making their way through valleys, dales and waterfalls before the reach their final destination of Knockree Hostel. This undertaking covers 22km and builds a sense of personal achievement and character building that is hard to gain anywhere else.

Gaisce or ‘great achievement’ is a self-development programme for young people between the ages of 15-25 and has been in existence since 1985. The Awards initially flourished under the patronage of former President Patrick. J Hillary and to date and have been carried by incoming President’s. To date over 300,000 young people have participated in the Gaisce programme and Woodbrook continues to contribute to this great initiative for young people in Ireland.
